The process of evolution for the Ti'rhyn is fundamentally connected to a unique type of crystal found within the Crystal Caverns to the north of the EverForest.
Every spring season wild Hatchlings will journey to the caverns to gather crystals attuned to their Gemkin in order to evolve. Many of those who make the journey evolve while gathering but those who do not will join with those who have stayed behind in the Gloaming Grove and there beneath the ancient Wisteria tree the Hatchlings commune with the crystals that sing the song of the Gemkin. Ultimately the harmonious synchronisation of Hatchling and Crystalsong somehow triggers a physical evolution to the Kid stage.

Similarly the evolution from Kid to Adult is keyed to the growing crystals within the caverns.
Kids however, will not fit within the narrow crack that the hatchlings enter through to collect the crystals for the spring evolution. Instead, all hopeful Kids climb up from the cavern entrance along a steep path that they could not likely have managed as Hatchlings. They gather then upon the Æçern Plateau above. Over the summer the crystals within will have grow in size and risen up somehow to burst up through the ground along the roots of the large Oak trees that grow there. This is the highest elevated place on the island where one will find Oaks and is worth noting for this fact. Current theories are that the crystals of the caverns maintain nutrients that otherwise would run off with the spring melt and summer rains.

Regardless of the why, this is a very special place indeed and all who find themselves upon the Æçern Plateau speak of a deep reverberant feeling of rejuvenation and joy.
